Two Free Tickets to Sleeping Beauty in Irvine, CA – Don’t Miss the Most Famous Kiss of all Time!

Festival Ballet Theatre’s The Nutcracker was an experience beyond my wildest imagination. The dancers performed with such grace and fluidity that I envisioned myself on stage and I was transported to a magical world of beauty and dance.  I made my husband promise to get tickets for any and all upcoming performances by Festival Ballet Theatre (FBT). When I heard that FBT would be celebrating spring with a full-length production of the beloved classical ballet, The Sleeping Beautymy heart leapt with joy. I had to experience it! FBT’s heart-warming production of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece brings to life fabled storybook favorites Princess Aurora, Puss ‘n Boots, Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf…characters that remind us that good always triumphs over evil. This timeless love story will feature guest artists Irina Dvorovenko and Maxim Beloserkovsky, principal dancers with American Ballet Theatre, and FBT’s professional company dancers.  The only problem – it is being performed on my due date! While others are witnessing the ballet performance of a lifetime, I will be performing the miracle of childbirth.  Since I can’t make it to the production, I’d at least like to send one of my lucky readers with a guest. In cooperation with Festival Ballet Theatre, Bucket List Publications is offering two tickets to The Sleeping Beauty at the Irvine Barclay Theatre,  4242 Campus Drive in Irvine, California.

The Sleeping Beauty is the story of the a long-wished for beautiful princess who, at her christening, is bestowed with enchanting gifts by the magical beings of her father’s kingdom – the Fairies of Serenity; Benevolence; Generosity; Happiness; Temperament and, the embodiment of all that is good and kind, the Lilac Fairy. Furious at being overlooked, the Evil Fairy Carabosse places a curse on Princess Aurora as her “gift,” proclaiming that upon reaching her 16th birthday the Princess will prick her finger on a spindle and die. The Lilac Fairy, although unable to completely reverse the spell, vows that it will be only partly true. The Princess will prick her finger, but she will not die. Instead, she and the Court will fall into a deep, 100-year long sleep until a handsome Prince awakens her with a kiss. On her 16th birthday, the curse is fulfilled: the Princess pricks her finger, and falls into a long sleep.  Upon the passing of 100 years, Prince Florimund finds our sleeping heroine, breaking the 100 years of sleep when he kisses the Princess and declares his love for her. The King and Queen are overjoyed and call for a magnificent royal wedding. And, yes, everyone lives happily ever after.

  1. Oh how beautiful! Your writing is so exquisite I feel like I’m wherever it is you’re writing about! I wish I lived close so I could maybe, possibly be granted your tickets! I can’t wait to hear about your next big adventure of giving birth!

  2. Lesley, wish we could enter but we live far away. It would be fun to possibly win on my birthday! It’s kind of you to offer the tickets. You — you have an appointment that is far more important! Praying for you…

I do have a young friend, a dancer, and will forward a link to this post to her. She’ll enjoy it. She began life in a Rumanian state orphanage, and though she suffered from the experience and still does, she can L E A P like the wind.

Bless you! Thanks, too, for bringing Sleeping Beauty to mind…

  3. I do not want to join the contest since traveling from NY would be quite a feat. I just would like to thank you for being such a nice person. I hope your delivery is a quick and easy one.
    All the best to you.

  4. Its a shame that I am in Germany. I have watched Romeo & Juliet and the The Swan Lake as ballets and loved them. Congratulations to whoever won the tickets. I am sure they would have a great time. 🙂 Wish you a wonderful weekend. Cheers!

  5. Lesley, thank you for the opportunity to enter your contest, alas I’m in Canada and too far away 😦 I’m sure it will be a spectacular performance and whoever is lucky enough to get the tickets will enjoy every beautiful minute. You have your own performance to perform and I’m sure you will do it wonderfully. Congratulations and be well 🙂 Sherry

  6. I hate so say this, but most first babies are late arrives… I hope that your little bundle of joy arrives in a timely fashion for you, because it would be such a shame if you ended up being sat at home frustrated that you had gone without and were not yet delivering…

That sai, what a lovely gift. I’m taking my daughter to see ‘my first sleeping beauty’ which is touring the UK at the moment… She does ballet classes once a week and is obsessed with ballerinas and fairies!

Hopefully you will be able to share a similar experience with your daughter 🙂

  7. It’s so amazing, I loved ballet, but the “adventure seekers” that I know do not like it, and do not understand it. It is refreshing to know that you see beauty in all things. Leslie, you rock!

    • My husband and I both try to take in as much culture and as many unique experiences as possible. As an English teacher for 8 years, theatre, ballet, and performances in general have played a major role in my life. Seeing a Shakespearean play performed in the Globe Theatre will remain as one of the highlights in my life and the Festival Ballet Theatre is an experience not to be missed. 🙂

      • Well rounded (no pun intended at this stage) is so liberating. Loving lots is so much more fun than any other alternative. Life is what we make of it. The more we open our arms to it, the more we can embrace. I love your attitude.
