Childhood Dreams Made Reality: Can You Say “All-Star”!

One of my favorite memories as a child was watching the NBA All-Star Weekend with myNBA-Events_All-Star-2013_Saturday-Night
grandfather and my brother. Spud Webb’s Slam Dunk victory over Wilkins making him the shortest player ever to win the contest, Michael Jordan’s perfect 50 dunk from the free-throw line, and Isiah Thomas’s 30 point game will forever be etched in my brain as inspirational and unforgettable memories in my life. It’s moments like these that remind you that greatest is possible. I still remember saying, “Imagine actually getting to see this in person”, as my brother and I watched in awe. We all know that I’m not one to stop at “imagine” and next weekend one of my childhood dreams might actually come true. Yes, readers, I’m planning to attend NBA All-Star 2013.

I’m going to partner with them to experience NBA All-Star 2013!

This is what I’ll be doing:

Friday
BBVA Rising Stars Challenge – I’ll experience 18 of the league’s brightest young stars from the Rookie and Sophomore classes battling it out in an epic game played in two 20-minute halves with no foul outs.

Saturday – State Farm All-Star Saturday Night - NBA All-Star Saturday Night includes four competitions, Shooting Stars, Taco Bell Skills Challenge, Foot Locker Three-Point Contest, and Sprite Slam Dunk, featuring some of the NBA’s best players.

Sunday – 2013 NBA All-Star Game - Basketball’s heroes face off in a battle of East vs. West in an all-out star spectacular game.

NBA_All-Star-Game_Fairwinds_Tower_NBA-Events-Hospitality-Party-Venue-BarMy tickets also include:
Access to the exclusive in-arena game hospitality party venue
NBA Legend Meet & Greets
Post Game On-Court Experience

I included an NBA game on my 2013 Bucket List, but this is even beyond my wildest imagination. Following my philosophy, the more unrealistic I am with my dreams and goals, the more I’m able to achieve, I’ve been thinking outside the box and stopping at nothing. 2013 is going to be epic!

Stay tuned for photos, videos, and NBA stars. You can follow me to the games, behind the scenes, and around Houston, Texas. I want this to be the most interactive, up-to-date experience yet! It will be a blast to bring you along.

Questions to you:
1. Which NBA legends do you want to meet?
2. Is this on your bucket list?
3. Which sporting event would you like to attend the most?

  1. Love it, you don’t do things in halves do you Lesley? We don’t get much coverage down here in Australia (unless you fork out for cable) but I hope to follow in your footsteps in a smaller way by going to a game when I hit US of A in August for a holiday!
Looking forward to seeing the photos :)

  2. That sounds brilliant, enjoy and let us all know how it goes. Different part of the world here in South Eastern Ireland so my sports choices are different. I would LOVE to see a small town American baseball game, I’m fascinated by everything in that one sentence! Our national game here is an ancient game called hurling, something like Hockey on steroids! Luckily my county team, Kilkenny, are way out in front all time champs going through an amazing golden patch. Would love to see them play and beat equally ancient rivals, Tipperary, one more time :-)
Here is a link to the 2012 final, Kilkenny beat Galway, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBx7ZsjziHQ

  3. Hi Lesley, it sounds absolutely amazing! When I lived in the states and when my son was little I loved Michael Jordan and all things Mike, even though I was a Knicks fan! He would definitely be someone I’d like to meet or Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson or Isaiah Thomas – I can’t pick one. Well done and if I could go to one sporting event I’d probably pick the Super Bowl (a triumphant New York Giants team preferably). I’m sure you’ll have a great time :)

  4. When we see a moment of greatness before our eyes we pause and have a wow moment. The next step is what if I could do that event myself(ponder). Not everyone comes to earth to have a wow moment of dunking a basketball in front of millions og people . We must decide what is our personal wow moment for us and then do it again and again

  8. 1. This is tough to answer – I didn’t really grow up in a basketball house so I’m not as familiar with the stars. I know the big names, of course, but to pick one of those as someone I’d like to meet? I’m not sure I could explain why I’d want to meet them. If I was pressed on it though, I’d probably say Magic Johnson… more for the enthusiasm my dad had for him as a player than for anything of my own. Though I wouldn’t mind talking business (and baseball) with him and his recent part in buying the Los Angeles Dodgers.
    2. Not on my bucket list – the attending a basketball game or meeting anyone famous. However, this is on my bucket list:
    3. World Cup! I don’t think I’ll make it to Brazil in 2014, but I will definitely be going to a World Cup at some point in my life. I will make it happen.

    • The influence our parents have over us is beautiful. It’s funny what reminds us of that. NBA always makes me think of my brother and my grandfather. When I found out that I was going, they were the first people I called. :)

I hope you make it to the World Cup! Imagine the energy there. Uuuuhhhhh! It would be awesome!

I love that you said, “I will make it happen”. I say that when I’m determined.

      Have a great day,

      Lesley

  10. Yes I am a NBA fanatic as well, and yes NBA All Star Weekend is on my bucket list. I haven’t been yet but I hope to. But I have met my favorite NBA, twice. I me Charles Barkley in Barcelona in ’92 and again at the Hard Rock Cafe in Atlanta the night before the Suns played the Hawks. So I have been extremely fortunate.

  12. That sounds like a lot of fun. I remember watching Basketball a lot when I was growing up too because my parents were following the Detroit Pistons in the 80′s. There was always that really good rivalry with Chicago. All of those guys are great players. :)

  14. Congratulations and may I say I’m jealous, jealous, jealous! lol Living in Oklahoma City, I often get to see Keven Durant, Russell Westbrook and company play in person and as expected, they never disappoint. I also enjoy getting to see other superstars from around the league (this Thursday night LeBron, Dwayne, and the Heat will be our guests) and I’m always delighted by their play as well. However, I have never had the opportunity to attend an All-star weekend so I’ll be adding this to my bucket list. Have a great time – oh – BTW – Kevin Durant for MVP!!!! ;-)

  15. wow congrats on the great opportunity… (thanks for checking out my site as well, you officially have a new fan)

if I could meet an NBA legend it would be Bill Russell (because he is my frat brother) and Isaih Thomas (because he played on my favorite team the pistons)

Ive always wanted to go to NBA all-star weekend but figured even if i made it to the city I wouldnt be able to attend any of the events due to the high price (well now i want to cover it and hopefully my sports show http://www.sportsqanda.com gets me there one day)

the ultimate for me is the Superbowl or going to see the University of Michigan play in the National Championship game (ill even settle for the Rose Bowl)
