With trips to Mexico, St. Lucia, and Hawaii coming up before December, we’re starting to think about the holidays. Should we go big or stay home this year? Since I started writing a few sponsored posts for Contiki, I haven’t been able to get off of their site or get a few destinations out of my mind. It’s become a starting board for me; a place where dreams begin and the wheels start turning for new adventures. Thailand has moved up on my list as well as Australia. Darren only has so much vacation time; maybe we should utilize it for a Asian or Australian vacation. Do we need to be in our home to enjoy the holidays? Let’s weigh the options. Continue reading
Right now, I should be in Banff, Alberta on a sleigh ride with my daughter… dashing through the snow with the cold Alberta air filling our lungs. Instead, I flew home last minute to pack up my house in Charlotte, North Carolina and move to California. It was a dream come true. We put our house on the market less than a month ago and we had an offer on December, Friday 13th. Should that have been a sign? I didn’t think of it. Continue reading
I’d never stayed at a timeshare property. I’d never even visited one. Doesn’t that sound odd since I travel so frequently? I honestly thought that timeshares were for older people and they restricted you to one location indefinitely. How naive is that? But I bet I’m not alone, right? Then, I had the opportunity to visit Marriott’s Harbour Lake and my opinion completely changed. The property offers a maritime theme throughout with a pirate-inspired pool, Florida Falls (an interactive water playground), and a miniature golf course. The activities schedule includes experiences for the entire family with everything from tot music sessions to evening wine tasting socials. The rooms and villas are fresh with bold colors and separate living and dining areas with plenty of room for the extended family. It’s a whole new world of possibilities. Continue reading
The rain was coming down in buckets when I arrived at Marriott’s Harbour Lake, A Marriott Vacation Club Resort, in Orlando, Florida today. I was discouraged. I’m only here for three days; I didn’t want to spend one of them with nothing to do. When I checked in, though, and was handed the resort activity guide, my mood instantly changed. Their guide reads like a phone book. I took it with me to lunch at The Patio and started planning my mini-vacation. For the next hour, I enjoyed exceptional service and delicious food. Now, the rain has gone and my week is looking brighter. Continue reading

With December fast approaching, we’d like to start our holidays off right. Rather than just celebrating December 25, Darren and I try to participate in as many holiday activities and events as possible. Now that we have Athena, we have to be creative with our schedule but we’ve planned a variety of fun events to get us in the holiday spirit and make it about more than just one day.
Now that we have a baby, we’re actually considering a personalized holiday card for our family. Don’t get me wrong, we’re a far cry from matching, red, knitted sweaters but the idea of sending our parents, siblings, and grandparents a family picture is appealing. After all, they ask for pictures daily and they do live in another country and miss Athena, and us, dearly. Continue reading
