What makes a hotel upscale in San Diego? In a city full of activities, adventure, beauty,
endless summers, and fine dining beyond anywhere else in the world, I wanted to find accommodations that matched the perfection of San Diego. With a prime location, friendly staff, and uniquely designed suites, the award winning 1906 Lodge is the epitome of all that is perfection in San Diego. Their unmatched service, gourmet food, and attention to every detail make 1906 Lodge worthy of the #1 Coronado Hotel Award on Trip Advisor, the #1 San Diego Bed & Breakfast Award with “Best of San Diego 2010”, the Top 10 Romantic Hotel in the US by Trip Advisor, and the 2011 Fodor’s Choice Award. It’s Coronado Beach lodging at its finest.
1906 Lodge is within a 15 minute drive to Sea World, Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, the beach, and the Gaslamp Quarter. Its location one block off of the main street in Coronado ensures peace and quiet yet allows walking distance to the world renowned Coronado Beach. Dozens of shops and restaurants stand ready to welcome visitors on their leisurely stroll through the seaside village.
The Ocean Blvd. suite sits at the front of the building with its own private garden in addition to a private porch. With a fireplace facing the king bed and huge spa tub, a spacious sitting room and a walk-in shower, this suite offers the traveler a perfect hideaway. As a married couple 17 weeks into pregnancy, the Ocean Blvd. suite offered a romantic hideaway where we found ourselves relaxing in luxury like kings and queens. The chilled bottle of lemonade as well as the turned down sheets and personal welcome note showed their attention to every detail and desire to make each guests stay special. They were prepared to spoil us!
The highlight of their complimentary amenities is breakfast. Sue, one of the owners, created a charmingly decorated dining room overlooking the garden courtyard. If enjoying the warm weather that San Diego has to offer is your cup of tea, guests can sit out on the back veranda as well. We began our morning with a full continental breakfast featuring homemade granola, scones, and muffins. There was fresh fruit, cereal, toast, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, juices, coffee, and tea. As if that wasn’t enough to make even a food critic’s mouth water with anticipation, they also offer a different hot entree each day of the week. On Saturday, we were served Mascarpone stuffed French toast and on Sunday we enjoyed mushroom and three cheese strata, which were both a delicious treat for the eyes and the stomach.
At five o’clock each afternoon, the hotel welcomes guests in the parlor for wine, lemonade, or iced tea, as well as a selection of snacks. It offers a great time to meet other vacationers or take your drink, sit on the veranda, and enjoy the lovely company. We took advantage of the private porch and the quiet ambiance of Coronado.
The 1906 Lodge provided the warmth and friendliness of a bed & breakfast and the amenities and service of a 5 diamond hotel. If perfection is what you’re after and romance is in your heart, you will find what you need at 1906 Lodge in Coronado, San Diego, California.
Although we live in Northern California, my husband and I have never made it down to San Diego (but it’s always been on our wish list). Thanks for giving us another reason to make that wish a reality.

I was stationed at Coronado Island during my four years in the Navy. I have to tell you I could not complain about my duty station 🙂 Coronado was a beautiful place and reading your posts makes me want to go back to visit. Thanks for sharing.

It certainly is a beautiful island. I hope to return soon, but since it’s only an hour away, it shouldn’t be too long before I return.
Are you still in the Navy? Where are you located now? By the changing color of the leaves, I don’t think it’s in San Diego 🙂
I hope you get to return.

Sadly I no longer live in San Diego. I live in Indianapolis, IN (my home state) and I can tell you I look forward to the day of moving away. My son graduates in 2 and half years and once he does Shane and I are planning to move out of the country. We are excited to live a different lifestyle and to see much of the world. Also I am no longer in the Navy I was in for 4 years right after high school. I really enjoyed my time in San Diego after growing up in small town nowhere.

What about the Hotel Del? I was able to stay there a couple of years ago and enjoyed it but the 1906 Lodge looks like it far outdoes it!

Normally I’m equally happy to stay in a tent, a motel, or a hotel, but a weekend at 1906 Lodge changed the way I view accommodations. It wasn’t just a place to sleep; it was high end accommodation with equally matched amenities and services. Their attention to deal made our stay special and pampered. I felt more like I was at a spa than a hotel.
Thanks for reading,

That’s fantastic and I must say, I’m a bit jealous of the accommodations.
That looks like an amazing place to stay, and great job on the photography as well.
