After countless extreme adventure, I constantly get asked, “What is your favorite?” Well, I think riding in a biplane stands at the top of the list so far.
I would love to do exactly this. I have wanted to go up in a biplane and let the pilot do stunts while we were up in the air. So far, my best extreme adventure has been whitewater rafting in Colorado.
The smiles don’t go away after you’ve been in the cockpit, leather helmet on, strapped in tight on a loop-de-loop with a mock Red Baron on your tail! My last biplane ride was over the San Juan Islands about seven years ago, and I’m still smiling about it. The t-shirt commemorating the event is my favorite in my closet even to this day.
Super blog, few words, great action, clean lines of the plane, super colours shwn very clearly from a great camera angle – sea and sky.
“Sun, sea air and patience Watson, all else will come to pass” as Conan Doyle has Sherlock Holmes saying.
Will need to watch this one again and again.
I almost lost tract of you guys so I went back in my comment folder and found ya’ll . I have been sitting here watching your bi-plane adventure. How awesome! I think I watched it 4 or 5 times and dig the music.
Heh good looking why the frown it always looks better upside down. Catchy tune. Who the it by? Jim
You are so brave to do this. I know it is a dream of my husband’s to do this. I would probably even go up just to experience it, even if my stomach couldn’t handle it. I love reading your adventures. Great post on an equally fantastic blog.
Lesley. I was getting sick just watching the clip. I think I’ll stick to the “Scooby Doo” roller coaster at King’s Dominion in Richmond, VA and adventure vicariously through you. Thanks again. Hugs from here.
Hi Lesley, this is freaking awesome. You have inspired me to try flying in a biplane, or jumping out of a perfectly functioning one…..hmmm have not decided yet.
Best adventure? We agree with you 100%. Lesley, the day of your flight was picture perfect. We’re thrilled it was your best extreme adventure so far! Keep trying to top it.
Great Post! A few months into my job as a news reporter (back in 1996), I was told by the newspaper’s publisher (Goldie) that he and I were taking a ride in an airplane and that I would be writing an article about it. When we arrived at the small airport, sitting on the runway was a bi-plane! Goldie and I put on these leather ear-flap caps and crammed into the front cockpit while the pilot settled into the back cockpit. A few minutes later we took off. If I find the article and photos, I’ll scan it and post it on my blog… it was a great experience… one I’ll never forget! Thanks for sharing your amazing experience in a bi-plane!
this kind of extreme adventure is the adventure that i want to try thank you for posting this blog because in this blog i show want kind of adventure is this.
I love biplanes, but loved flying sailplanes even more!

My two year-old saw a biplane the other day while we were fishing, and got so excited when he saw this video that he had to watch it again and again.

I get scared even flying in a 747 or A380. 🙂 But it was fun watching your flight while safely sitting on terra firma.
How was the video taken? Was there a camera mounted on the wing? Or was there an even more intrepid person standing out there? 🙂

They mounted a GoPro to the wing of the plane. We use a GoPro for all of our adventures. 🙂

Thanks for the info! I’m unlikely to ever be brave enough for the kind of activities that you would use a GoPro for, but you never know!
