Eastern Canada Bucket List

Magic Mountain Little Squirt
Since moving back to Eastern Canada, my bucket list has grown substantially. There are extreme adventures and quiet trails, 5-star historic hotels and hidden cabins for rent in Canada‘s eastern regions. You can lean off of buildings, raft a tidal bore, or explore enchanted forests. There are so many unbelievable options that I’ve created an Eastern Canada bucket list.  Eastern Canada is generally considered to be the region of Canada east of Manitoba, consisting of the following provinces: New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec. These are our favorite bucket list ideas in Eastern Canada.

Making a Splash at Moncton’s Magic Mountain

Magic Mountain Green Slide

Athena is the perfect age for water parks. She exudes happiness when she goes down a water slide and she spends so much time in the water I think she is part fish, which is why we saved Magic Mountain for the last day of our trip to New Brunswick. We wanted to go out with a splash.   Continue reading

Favorite Foods in Moncton, New Brunswick

Atlantic Lobster, New Brunswick

Coming home to New Brunswick is just as much a food event as a trip to visit family and friends. We start planning our food stops before we’re even on the plane. Pastelli holds a special place in my heart since it’s where Darren and I had our first date and Pump House is a tried and true favorite as well. I miss chicken from Swiss Chalet, pizza from Boston Pizza, and poutine and donair from anywhere and everywhere I can get them. There are so many delicious, mouth-watering options that I struggle with finding the time to enjoy them all.  Continue reading

Athena’s First Camping Experience

oTENTik in Fundy National ParkOne of the items on this year’s bucket list was to take Athena camping. I’m embarrassed to say that she’s never been before, especially since I loved camping as a child and it’s one of my earliest memories. We wanted her first overnight camping experience to be in eastern Canada so it would be similar to what I remembered as a child. We packed our bags and made our way to Fundy National Park in New Brunswick to experience camping like never before for all of us. Continue reading

Horseback Riding at Broadleaf Guest Ranch, New Brunswick

Broadleaf Guest Ranch

Last year, I took Athena to Alisal Guest Ranch in Solvang, California and she had one of the best days of her life riding a small horse around the corral. She talked about it for months. When I heard that Broadleaf Guest Ranch in Riverside-Albert, New Brunswick offers trail rides for children Athena’s age as long as they are accompanied by an adult, it was the first thing I added to my list for this visit. Broadleaf Guest Ranch is an 1100 acre, family owned and operated adventure business located in Albert County, New Brunswick, in the heart of the Bay of Fundy. They have been in business for more than 50 years and 3 generations. Their experience made me feel comfortable about booking with Athena at such a young age. She was even happier with the experience than I anticipated. The smile on her face during the entire ride was magical.  Continue reading

New Brunswick’s Parlee Beach Is Perfect for Kids

Parlee Beach, New Brunswick

We spent the day at Parlee Beach in Shediac, New Brunswick and it was Athena’s idea of a dream beach. It offers a playground, soft sand, warm, shallow waters, life guards and bathrooms. Athena and I will be spending most of our three-week New Brunswick vacation at Parlee Beach because it doesn’t get any better than this.  Continue reading

Splashtacular – Magic Mountain

Water slide, Magic Mountain

With a 100 foot virtual vertical drop water slide and a skybox drop capsule, we decided that Magic Mountain Waterpark in Moncton, New Brunswick was the perfect place for the “big kids” to spend the day. Athena and Nanny had some quality alone time while Darren and I joined our brothers and sister for a day of fun at Magic Mountain. Continue reading

Calm Enough for Her; Active Enough for Me

Bennett Lake, New Brunswick

Finding family-friendly destinations that offer something for everyone is difficult. Someone always has to compromise. But at Bennett Lake in Fundy National Park, New Brunswick, there is something for everyone. Kayaking, canoeing and paddle boating, hiking trails, swimming, and barbecuing are part of the experience at Bennett Lake. My in-laws, Darren, Athena, and I all found something fun to do today at the lake.  Continue reading

Surrounded by Animals & Smiling

Magnetic-Hill-Zoo

Magnetic Hill Zoo has more than 400 animals, including over 100 indigenous and exotic species. Birds, mammals, insects, reptiles, and fish find a comfortable and safe home in the 40-acre park, but we feel in love with the animals at the petting zoo. Even Athena, who is normally shy around new animals, loved the deer, the goats, and the ducks. She was actually brave enough to feed a few animals for herself. Continue reading

Extreme Bucket List Style in New Brunswick

Cape-Enrage,-NB

The phenomenal Bay of Fundy is one of the world’s most dramatic coastlines with tides rising as much as 53 vertical feet over a 12-hour period twice each day, and Cape Enrage offers one of the most spectacular views of the natural phenomenon from its towering cliffs. It’s a bucket list sight that should be on everyone’s list, but Cape Enrage steps it up extreme bucket list style by adding the adventure aspect. Rock climbing, rappelling, and ziplining can all be done over this spectacular coastline at one location. Cape Enrage offers it all. Continue reading
