Legoland Water Park the Bucket List Way

Legoland Water Park, California, USA

Legoland is our favorite park in California. We love the staff, the rides, the food, and the hotel, but we never make enough time for the water park. With so much to experience in one day, I usually feel like we need to choose between spending the whole day at the water park or the whole day in the main section. Last week, though, we found the perfect balance between the main park and the water park. Here’s how we explored Legoland Water Park the bucket list way.  Continue reading

Sunset at Hilton Hawaiian Village

Sunset at Hilton Hawaiian Village, Oahu

Hilton Hawaiian Village is one of my favorite properties in the world. When I was trying to decide my ultimate vacation spot for Thanksgiving, it topped the list. There are so many things about it that make it one of my favorite destinations including the endless array of activities, the amenities, the dining, and the views, but the sunsets are so truly magical that they make the flight worth it themselves.  Continue reading

SNUBA with Catalina Scuba Luv

Catalina Scuba LuvI love being under water. There is beauty and grace. The fish. The kelp. They flow in an elegant rhythm. After swimming with whales, sharks, dolphins, manta rays, sting rays, and dozens of species of fish, I still haven’t been dive certified. It’s high on my list, but I need more practice using the regulator and I still feel a sense of claustrophobia or panic. It’s like I can’t breathe, but I know it’s all in my head. I went to Catalina last weekend to try SNUBA with Catalina Scuba Luv. I wanted to suppress the fear and maybe overcome it. After years of panicking and still trying, I finally found my comfort zone under the water.  Continue reading

Family Weekend at Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa & Marina

Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa & Marina

With its world-class attractions like the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld, family-friendly dining like Corvette Diner and Waypoint Public, and terrific climate, San Diego is a perfect vacation spot for kids. There are so many amazing opportunities in the area that there’s never a lot of time at the hotel, but Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa & Marina is a destination in itself. There are activities for big kids, little ones, and kids at heart alike. It’s the only resort hotel in San Diego with multiple water slides and it’s close to all of the best activities. Even with tickets to San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld, we wanted to spend most of our time at the hotel.  Continue reading

Hey Baby, Let’s Road Trip to Vegas

Kia road trip to VegasAthena and I are on a Vegas road trip with Kia. If you’d like to follow along, the hashtag is #KiaRoadTripLV. We started this morning at Kia Headquarters and drove from Irvine to Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Vegas. Although we didn’t make too many stops along the way, we did have a rocking party in the Kia Sedona SXL. Continue reading

2017 Bucket List – Coachella

Coachella

California has been a magical dreamland of wonder. When I first moved here, I had visions of beaches and palm trees but I had no idea it was such an endless world of entertainment. Sure, I was aware that it was home to movie premieres and countless celebrities, but I didn’t realize that I would attend ballets, musicals, and concerts on a regular basis. One major entertainment event that reminded on my list all this time, though,  is Coachella. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is an annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. From the best people watching in the world to world class art, Coachella offers numerous experiences to enjoy along with the music. So this year, I decided it was time to cross it off my list.  Continue reading

Open Doors at The Landing

The Landing, Door County, Wisconsin
This Christmas was a world of new for Athena and I. We decided to spend it with my partner’s family in Wisconsin. (I still haven’t found the “boyfriend” term that fits for me but I’m working on it.) It was the first time Athena and I weren’t in our own home, opening gifts from Santa and family that were placed under our Christmas tree with loving care; but home isn’t your own tree or a familiar room. It’s the people who surround you that make it home. Cord’s family has shown us an abundance of love in the last few months. They opened their homes and their hearts to Athena and I. Even though we spent Christmas day, and the two days following Christmas, at The Landing in Door County, Wisconsin, it was the most at home I felt in almost a decade.  Continue reading

An Entire Town for Kids at Mill View Ranch

Mill View Ranch, Camino, California

Whenever I travel with Athena, I always look for a park for her to play or a restaurant with an indoor play place. In El Dorado County, they have an entire old-west style miniature town made just for kids. It should be no surprise that despite the cold, I still made time for a visit with Athena.  Continue reading

I Finally Crossed Scuba Diving Off My Bucket List

Aqua Zone Scuba Diving & Snorkeling, Oahu, Hawaii

I’ve been talking about scuba diving for the entirety of Bucket List Publications. It was on my first bucket list when I created the site and it remained on the list year after year. The fear consumed me and took over. Failure after failure, I thought I’d never actually accomplish that one check mark. I tried and had a panic attack. I tried again and still couldn’t get over it. Well, hell yes! I finally went scuba diving and it was in one of the most beautiful places in the world – Hawaii. Thanks to Aqua Zone Scuba Diving and Snorkeling Center, I can finally say I crossed scuba diving off my list for the first time and I can guarantee it won’t be the last.  Continue reading

Highlights From Our California Route 66 Road Trip

California Route 66 road trip

Starting in sunny Santa Monica and ending in the dramatic California desert near the Nevada border, Athena and I went on a California Route 66 road trip. Legendary Route 66, also known as the “Mother Road”, follows the strip of highway that was the main route for 20th century pioneers heading west in search of the California dream. With stops in Santa Monica, Hollywood, Pasadena, Victorville, Barstow, and Joshua Tree, I followed the historic route enough to get the true “Mother Road” feel and added a few worthy detours to fit my travel style. These were the highlights of our Route 66 road trip in California.  Continue reading
