We spent the day at Parlee Beach in Shediac, New Brunswick and it was Athena’s idea of a dream beach. It offers a playground, soft sand, warm, shallow waters, life guards and bathrooms. Yesterday I celebrated American Thanksgiving with good friends and family, delicious food and wine, and beautiful weather. I am thankful for so much in my life that listing all of the things would take me days but I still wanted to recognize how truly grateful I am for my life, my health, and my family. When I think about the best parts of my life, here’s the first five things that come to my mind…
I’ve seen heavenly beaches around the world, some with turquoise waters so clear that you question reality and others with soft white sands that cushion your feet like pillows, but no view could compare to what I saw today at Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas. I guess it could have happened anywhere. It wasn’t so much the beach that inspired me as the people, or person, surrounding me. Today, Athena lifted my heart to a new level of joy. The happiness on her face as she ran down the beach in her big, pink dress and messy hair was life-changing. I am a mother and every second of my life is more beautiful because of it. Stop! No! You’re going to get hurt. You never listen. You’re being bad. Oh my God! You need to get off of there. Listen to me! Get over here right now! If you don’t stop that, you’re going to bed right now! Stop hitting your sister! For two hours this is what we heard from the next hotel room, along with doors slamming, children and adults screaming, banging on the headboard, fighting, and hitting. I don’t expect parents to be perfect or to have all the answers, I can certainly tell you I’m far from perfect and I can tell you with even more certainty that I don’t have even half of the answers, but I do expect them to be aware of their surroundings and exhibit some parenting skills. I leave for Fiji in 32 days! Fiji is a dream location; blessed with 333 magnificent islands, some inhabited, most not, Fiji is a tropical paradise. My daughter, the light of my life, my pride and joy, Athena Ceilidh Carter, was born on April 
2, 2012. She came into this world with a joy that surpasses anything else in life. Her tiny coos and infectious smile warm my heart and soul. I could spend hours watching her sleep, move, or look at me.
