Stop! No! You’re going to get hurt. You never listen. You’re being bad. Oh my God! You need to get off of there. Listen to me! Get over here right now! If you don’t stop that, you’re going to bed right now! Stop hitting your sister! For two hours this is what we heard from the next hotel room, along with doors slamming, children and adults screaming, banging on the headboard, fighting, and hitting. I don’t expect parents to be perfect or to have all the answers, I can certainly tell you I’m far from perfect and I can tell you with even more certainty that I don’t have even half of the answers, but I do expect them to be aware of their surroundings and exhibit some parenting skills. Introducing Athena Ceilidh Carter
My daughter, the light of my life, my pride and joy, Athena Ceilidh Carter, was born on April 2, 2012. She came into this world with a joy that surpasses anything else in life. Her tiny coos and infectious smile warm my heart and soul. I could spend hours watching her sleep, move, or look at me.
Athena is the accumulation of all of my dreams. The rest of the world became a blur in the background and my family was clearly in focus. She was more important than a lifetime of bucket list adventures. My life had a new meaning. I was a mother! Continue reading
The Most Highly Recommended Baby Carrier – ERGObaby
I’ve talked about babywearing before and I’m sure I’ll talk about it in the future, but it’s something that I plan to do quite often with Little Miss Carter. I truly believe that it strengthens the bond between parent and child. Ultimately, I want to be close to my little girl. Who wouldn’t? She’ll be happy; I’ll be happy; the whole family will be happy. I’ve researched and reviewed countless carriers and the ERGObaby Performance Carrier is the most highly regarded and recommended by active parents, many of whom give it perfect ratings. With exceptional quality like the foam-padded straps at the shoulder and waist, adjustable fitting for parents of all sizes, a design that distributes most of the weight to the wearer’s hips, reducing the back and shoulder strain common among baby carriers, and versatility (babies can be carried up front, on one hip, or piggyback style), the Ergo Baby Carrier’s features stand out among the vast array of choices. The ERGObaby Carrier makes babywearing safe and a snap, and you don’t need to have a degree in engineering to figure our how to use it. The ERGO is designed so that you can wear your baby for hours on end with comfort all while allowing you to remain active and productive! Continue reading

L’oved Baby 4-in-1 Nursing Shawl
Nursing is on the top of my list when it comes to having a newborn baby, but I’m hesitate to nurse in public and don’t want to be locked up in the house for as long as I’m nursing. After considering several options, the 4-in-Nursing Shawl by L’ovedbaby is the perfect, versatile solution. It’s a pregnancy poncho, pumping bib, car seat canopy, and lightweight blanket. Its silky chamois-like fabric feels terrific, and it’s breathable for my baby’s comfort. I want my baby girl to be a L’oved Baby, and this is a great start in the right direction. Continue reading
The Only Swaddler that Truly Mimics the Womb – The Woombie
I’ve heard that swaddling has been proven to help babies sleep better, longer, and safer. It reduces incidences of SIDS, colic and fussiness, and it can help make breastfeeding easier. I understand the benefits of swaddling but, as a first time mother, I question how should I swaddle my baby? How tight should the swaddle be? How can I maximize the effects of the swaddle? Basically, how do I know if I’m doing it right? The Woombie is a safe, comfortable, and effective way to swaddle my baby, encouraging her to softly stretch extremities as needed, just like in the womb. It’s an effective way to know I’m doing it right because all I need to do is zipper it up and tuck in the zipper. Continue reading
