With its world-class attractions like the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld, family-friendly dining like Corvette Diner and Waypoint Public, and terrific climate, San Diego is a perfect vacation spot for kids. There are so many amazing opportunities in the area that there’s never a lot of time at the hotel, but Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa & Marina is a destination in itself. There are activities for big kids, little ones, and kids at heart alike. It’s the only resort hotel in San Diego with multiple water slides and it’s close to all of the best activities. Even with tickets to San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld, we wanted to spend most of our time at the hotel. Continue reading

Kicking Off Halloween with Legoland’s Brick or Treat
Halloween is one of my favorite days of the year. My birthday is the day before so I’ve always started celebrating early, but this year we kicked off Halloween with extra early trick-or-treating at Legoland and we’re feeling the Halloween spirit. Continue reading
Being Better at it all at Fairmont Grand Del Mar
Dating and transitioning to something serious with a four year old in tow while you’re still married (only because of legal issues) and writing publicly about your life isn’t easy. Even typing it makes me laugh. I feel like it’s a screenplay for a horrible chick flick. But it’s my life and I’m trying to find the balance. Athena’s dad has been out of the country for the last month, leaving me with Athena full-time. I love our time together and I appreciate that so many mothers never get this opportunity but 24 hours a day, 7 days a week is draining. I have a shorter fuse and it trickles into all aspects of my life. My boyfriend, another bizarre thing to say and type, has been more than accommodating. I’m constantly in shock with his kindness and understanding, especially for someone without children of his own. Visiting Fairmont Grand Del Mar was my way of balancing the insanity in my life right now. With nanny services, the Explorer’s Club, a pool, a spa, and 5-star dining, we could spend time with Athena and still have time for ourselves. We spent an entire afternoon in the pool and a full day at Legoland but we took one full day for ourselves and it was magical. Thank you, Fairmont Grand Del Mar! You’re a life saver. Continue reading

With Super Bowl 50 just around the corner, both date and location, we’re discovering the Super Bowl heritage in California. Over the next week, we will road trip from San Diego to San Francisco exploring the history of the Super Bowl in California. We started at Qualcomm Stadium followed by the San Diego Hall of Champions and we already feel the Super Bowl fever. Continue reading
Lazy Days at San Diego Zoo
Visiting San Diego Zoo can be a completely full day of walking and exploring. After spending 6 hours there yesterday, we’re having a lazy Monday. Rather than working, Athena and I are spending the afternoon at the pool. The zoo animals, like my little monkey, often get tired in the afternoon as well. Some of our favorite photos were of the new babies catching a ride with their moms or relaxing with their family. Which ones make you say, “Awwww”? Continue reading
5 Favorite Animals at San Diego Zoo
San Diego Zoo is unquestionably fantastic. With amphibians, birds, insects and spiders, mammals, and reptiles, it’s home to over 3,700 rare and endangered animals representing more than 650 species and subspecies. It’s impossible to choose favorites when there are so many unique animals to see, but we chose our top 5 favorites of the day based on our interaction with them, their cool behavior, and the fond memories we created base on our experiences with them. Do any of our favorites make your top five list? Continue reading
Why Not Start with Dessert First?
My favorite part of dining out is ordering dessert but by the time I try a few things on the menu, I never have enough room to finish it. Vessel Restaurant at Kona Kai Resort & Marina is known for its regional, coastal fare and unique cocktails but since I wasn’t ordering any of their signature dishes, I decided to start with the dessert, assuring I had room for my favorite part and then going back to the beginning with appetizers and a main course. Why not start with the dessert first when it’s my favorite part? Besides, I was on vacation and I was there to relax. I was going to make it all about my favorite things. Continue reading
A Photo Tour of Kona Kai Resort & Marina
Kona Kai is a San Diego Bay treasure, situated at the very tip of Shelter Island, offering captivating marina and bay views. Having recently undergone a $22 million refreshment, I wanted to check out what all the buzz was about at Kona Kai. The warm, alluring, tropical atmosphere is inviting and the casual island luxury creates the perfect, relaxing getaway. Are you in need of a vacation? Join me for a visual getaway. Continue reading
Is a Weekend Getaway Better than Travel Overseas?
Although we didn’t travel to a new country in February, we did move from North Carolina back to California. While it’s a dream come true, it was exhausting. Packing, unpacking, saying good-bye to friends, traveling, settling in, figuring out a new community, setting up services, and creating a routine for Athena has left us tired and a little stressed. Is it possible that we need a break from our new place already? With empty walls and a few boxes still left to unpack, we decided to get away and leave the rest of the work until next week.
What Extreme Adventures are on Your Bucket List?
Hosting the Adventure Photo Contest reminded me of the extreme adventures that I’ve done in the last few years and how much fun I had while doing each one. So today’s post is simply a photo collage of my recent extreme adventures. I’m sure there are some that I’ve forgotten but here goes…
