Jumping on Action Photography

Some of my favorite photos are jump action shots, but they can be difficult to achieve. Action photography requires you to be quick and know your camera. In most occasions, though, it’s the funny, off-time shots that make the day memorable.

Let’s jump in and see some photos inspired by one action: jump!

Airplane window view

10 countries and countless cities made it on my 2013 Bucket List. France, Dominican Republic, Bermuda, Jordan, Aruba, Curacao, Canada, USA, Mexico, and Fiji were all part of my whirlwind of adventures and new experiences. I never envisioned such an amazing year of opportunity; my life continues to be a dream come true. I am blessed. Some people create a bucket list because they are dying; I created one because I want to live.

Number 2 – Bermuda

Bermuda Travel

When you envision Paradise, what images enter your mind? Do you picture snow-capped mountains? Maybe an endless field of flowers? Or cotton-candy colored skies? My version of Paradise has always been the perfect beach. I remember looking at a poster in university of bridge over water and I was so draw to it, that I needed to buy it. I must have stared at that poster for more than 100 hours, imagining my life in those waters. While in Bermuda, as if from a dream, the poster appeared before my eyes… yet it was real. It was as if everything I’d dreamed about in the picture materialized right in front of me while driving on the highway in Bermuda near St. George’s.

This photo represents the accumulation of all of my dreams come true. It’s no longer a dream-like poster, rather a photo that I shot while on a press trip in Bermuda.

Do you think if you dream it and imagine it, you attract it into your life?

Winter has Arrived in Banff, Alberta

Sunshine Village

Cold winter morning at Sunshine Village Ski Resort

Last week, I shared a few photos that I took while travelling around Banff National Park, Canada, and I am truly humbled by the number of wonderful comments that were submitted, so I decided to show you a few more.

Over the past week, Mother Nature decided to bless us with 30 inches of snow, which has everyone in town talking about one thing: skiing!

November is an exciting time of year for local residents of Banff. The hustle and bustle of the summer tourism season has come and gone, traffic and parking are easy to find. The local ski resorts start teasing us with photos and potential start dates for the upcoming ski season. A fresh crop of Aussies are running around town in their “jumpers” looking to get all the necessary gear that is required for an extended ski holiday in Canada. It truly is an exciting time of year!

It’s at this time of year that I look through old ski and snowboard photos and get myself psyched up for the coming season. Here are a few that I hope you will enjoy seeing as much as I did taking them.

Number 3 – The Big Island, Hawaii

Hawaii - The Big Island Hawaii Island isn’t just big, it’s still growing. The Big Island is the youngest island in the Hawaiian chain and is also by far the biggest, providing a vast canvas of environments to discover a variety of unrivaled natural wonders. This is the home of one of the world’s most active volcanoes (Kilauea), the tallest sea mountain in the world at more than 33,000 feet (Maunakea), the most massive mountain in the world (Maunaloa) and the largest park in the state (Hawaii Volcanoes National Park). All but two of the world’s climate zones generate everything from lush rain forests to volcanic deserts, snow-capped mountaintops to beautiful black sand beaches.

Have you been to Hawaii? Is it on your list?

What’s Your Favorite Jordan Photo

My Jordan journey included visits to the rose-red rock city of Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and Wadi Rum, the desert T.E. Lawrence called “vast, echoing and God-like.” It also included a visit to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth and the world’s largest open-air spa, Mount Nebo and Madaba, the Dana Nature Reserve, Amman,  Jerash, Evason Ma’in Six Senses, Feynan, and Wadi Mujib. Every day was a bucket list day. From driving down the highway to trekking through the desert, I was able to capture my favorite moments on camera. Which photo draws you the most? Which one makes you want to add Jordan to your bucket list? Which one is most like paradise to you? Come to Jordan with me, if only for a few moments, and explore my favorite country  so far. Continue reading

Beauty Beyond Words – The Kings’ Highway

The Kings’ Highway in Jordan is the world’s oldest continuously used communication Kings' Highway, Jordanroute. It used to link ancient Bashan, Gilad, and Ammon in the north with Moab, Edom, Paran, and Midian in the south. This scenic route winds, drops, twists, and meanders through the heart of the Jordanian highlands, passing through the country’s most spectacular landscapes and some of its most important ancient sites. But words can’t do it it justice.  Continue reading
